Fem Lit is a collaboration of individuals seeking to listen & explore diverse stories of women via literature.
We meet in every third Monday of the month (unless stated) from 7pm-8pm.
We’re seeking to enhance and educate our understanding of shared life by reading, discussing, and edifying the diverse stories created and experienced by women.
Any genre is up for discussion, as long as it is woman-authored!
Open to any individuals, male or female who are comfortable exploring literature through a feminist lens
Our Guidelines Include:
– Everyone has a voice and can use it to their comfort level
– We intently listen and don’t interrupt
– We explore rather than criticize
The discussion will circulate on plot, characters, voice, cultural context, etc. and will focus on what it means to be a woman in the context of the story and the importance of the female perspective. Knowing that everyone reads and digests at a different pace, the monthly reading does not have to be complete for members to participate in the discussion, we simply give warning against spoilers!
For our August gathering, an introduction to the importance of reading woman-authored literature both past and present and discussion of book suggestions. References will be made to Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie’s We Should All Be Feminists – this is not a required reading before you arrive!
