Event Details

Are you fascinated by sign language? Do you wish you knew more about how to (appropriately) interact with deaf people? This class is for you, girl! Let’s get together to talk about milestones in deaf history, respectful interaction (even if you aren’t fluent in ASL) with deaf people, and deaf culture myth busters!

Facilitated by Jess from My Smart Hands! Jess is a certified baby sign language instructor for both deaf and hearing babies, along with their parents, in Winston-Salem.

Growing up a hearing child of deaf adults (CODA), Jess offers the unique perspective of both the hearing and deaf worlds. Learning at a very young age that some people struggle when it comes to interactions with those that are different from them, she has found in her adult life that advocating and educating is her passion.

Jess is happy to answer any questions about deafhood (trust me, she’s heard them all), so bring them with you!
