Event Details

Level up your sewing game with hand sewing techniques! Hand sewing can provide the polished and professional finish to take your garments to the next level. We will cover techniques for thread tracing, basting, hemming, seaming, and more! Students will leave with reference swatches of various stitch techniques for their sample library as well as an understanding of different stitches to use for different garments.

Class size: 6 students

Instructor to provide: Fabric swatches for practicing, handouts for techniques & note-taking, buttons, various thimbles to try, thread conditioner & thread

Students to bring:
-A thimble of choice (leather, plastic, or metal)
-Thread snips or fabric scissors
-Pins
-Pen/pencil

Led by Monica Barnett. Monica is a sewist, music lover, cat lady. She has 15+ years of sewing experience from both college classes and on the job learning (the internet was still very young at that time!).  She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Textile & Apparel Design from the University of Wisconsin and an Associate’s degree in Apparel Design from the Fashion Institute of Technology. Since 2007, Monica has specialized in technical design for several Fortune 500 companies, working on everything from jeans to bras.  Monica believes that anyone can learn to sew and strives to empower others through teaching sewing.  Sewing is fun, liberating and body positive!  Come to learn with her in a fun and relaxed environment!
