Event Details

Photography is the practice of creating images by shaping light. Natural light is the first thing we learn to shape. It is, however, limiting. In order to shoot where there’s very little to no natural light available, external flashes are important to understanding.

In this introductory workshop, you will:
– Learn what you need in order to take your speedlight off-camera to light portraits.
– Get a basic understanding of TTL and how to shoot with a TTL enabled flash.
– Learn how to use a speedlight in Manual mode.

This four-hour workshop is a great introductory course for photographers curious about enhancing their photography by using off-camera flash.

Please bring your speedlight(s) and their manuals, and have a rudimentary knowledge of your speedlight controls by reading your manual. Though I will be using a Canon camera and a combination of Canon and Flashpoint/Godox brands of speedlights to demonstrate, this class is not a Masterclass, nor a Masterclass for any specific brand as there are so many brands and options for speedlights. I will teach concepts that you will need to adapt to your own speedlight and camera system. If your flash is not TTL capable, don’t worry — you will still learn how to light using Manual mode off-camera.

Let’s take your photography to the next level.

Due to the time of the workshop, please do bring lunch and snacks.

Born in Laguna, Philippines, Kris Fulk is a commercial photographer based in North Carolina. She immigrated to New York City when she was only 10 years old. In the fall of 2001, Kris was accepted into the fashion design program of the prestigious Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City. Witnessing the fall of the Twin Towers during September 11, however, precipitated her enlistment into the United States Navy. She served as an aviation electrician’s mate, working on F/A 18s for four years until her honorable discharge at the age of 23. Since then she has graduated magna cum laude from St. Mary’s College of Southern Maryland with a Studio Art/Art History degree focused on photography and illustration, and pursues her love for fashion and art through her camera.
