02may6:00 pm8:00 pmQueering Reproductive Justice: Let's Go Deep & Intersectional!Thursday, May 2

Event Details

Reproductive justice, including abortion rights, birth control, and in general both secular and religious attitudes towards reproductive justice, have been aimed in a dominant white cis-heteronormative framework that has excluded those that don’t fit into this category. Reproductive justice has remained focused on the needs of white cisgender heterosexual women, and have often excluded those that do not fit into those confines. Topics to be explored are racial reproductive justice during birth and beyond birth, reproductive justice for transgender and/or non-binary birthing persons, and so much more. The aims of this workshop will help those that attend gain a much more comprehensive (and realistic) framework for which to advocate on behalf of the marginalized and educate themselves and their circles. This workshop should be the grounding for much further education in reproductive justice, and it should encourage attendees to expand the communities that they are involved in currently.

Alexx Andersen is a biracial non-binary graduate student at WFU School of Divinity, where their interests include the intersections of food and black health, interfaith sacramental practices around food and tables in community, sexual health for black women and femmes, and intergenerational trauma healing for persons of color. They are in their second year of the Divinity School, and they plan to pursue intersectional sexual and gender justice work in the non-profit sector after they graduate.
