EFT – Emotional Freedom Techniques
When it comes to managing overwhelm, which is a combination of extreme stress and anxiety, the Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) deserves special mention. EFT Tapping is a group of energy psychology techniques that involve tapping on several of your body’s acupressure points while focusing on, and making specific statements about the issue at hand—in this case, overwhelm.
Like Acupuncture, EFT Tapping is based on the fact that your body and vital energy, flows along invisible channels known as meridians. When you are in overwhelm because you are stressed, anxious, traumatized, or sick, your energy flow can become blocked which EFT can reverse without the needles used in acupuncture.
What causes us to become overwhelmed? Sometimes basic anxiety overwhelms us. We may have to much to do in too few hours, while other times we may feel completely stuck. Circumstances beyond our control can mean living in the midst of almost constant chaos and stress, leading us to feelings of overwhelm.
Sign that you’re headed toward overwhelm: forgetting appointments, dropping things… anything like the toothpaste or keys… more than once, spill things, bumping yourself on… everything, etcetera. These are signs that you are entering the overwhelm zone and things will get worse physically and emotionally.
How can this be changed? The beauty of EFT Tapping is that it can actually reprogram your body’s reactions to the unavoidable stressors of everyday life, usually providing a lasting effect.
