Event Details

Practice your sewing skills AND go green with a reusable tote bag. Skills practiced include cutting out a pattern, straight seams, boxing a bag, inserting a lining, adding a pocket and handles. You’ll leave with the paper pattern and a completed bag.

Class size: 5 students

Instructor to provide: Bag pattern, cotton webbing for bag handles, one sewing machine, back up fabric for epic disaster in fabric choices, iron & ironing board

Students to bring:
-Functioning sewing machine
-Thread-Fabric scissors or rotary cutter/cutting mat
-Pins (required) and/or pattern weights (optional)
-Marking pen or Chaco liner
-Two contrast fabrics, ½ yard each. Woven fabric only, minimum 45” wide. Quilting cotton is recommended. PLEASE pre-wash and iron!
-Paper Scissors

Led by Monica Barnett. Monica is a sewist, music lover, cat lady. She has 15+ years of sewing experience from both college classes and on the job learning (the internet was still very young at that time!). She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Textile & Apparel Design from the University of Wisconsin and an Associate’s degree in Apparel Design from the Fashion Institute of Technology. Since 2007, Monica has specialized in technical design for several Fortune 500 companies, working on everything from jeans to bras. Monica believes that anyone can learn to sew and strives to empower others through teaching sewing. Sewing is fun, liberating and body positive! Come to learn with her in a fun and relaxed environment!
