Keep your sew-jo rolling by learning how sew a lined zipper bag! We will practice straight seams, shortening zippers, working with interfacing, adding a lining, and an easy technique for keeping the zipper flat. Students will leave with a finished zipper bag and copy of the pattern (printed and digital).

Taught by Monica Barnett – Sewist, music lover, cat lady
Monica has 15+ years of sewing experience from both college classes and on the job learning (the internet was still very young at that time!). She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Textile & Apparel Design from the University of Wisconsin and an Associate’s degree in Apparel Design from the Fashion Institute of Technology. Since 2007, Monica has specialized in technical design for several Fortune 500 companies, working on everything from jeans to bras. Monica believes that anyone can learn to sew and strives to empower others through teaching sewing. Sewing is fun, liberating and body positive! Come learn with her in a fun and relaxed environment!
Instructor to provide: Paper & digital pattern, backup zippers and fabric in case of unfortunate incidents/inappropriate fabric choices, interfacing, iron & ironing board, one machine for a student who may not have one
Students to bring:
-Functioning sewing machine
-Zipper foot for sewing machine
-One 11-12 inch zipper (can match your fabric or be contrast) *Not an invisible zipper*
-Fabric: Half a yard for the bag. Additional fabric if you want a contrast lining (at least ¼” yard or a fat quarter) Woven fabric only, please. Quilting cottons recommended.
-Fabric Scissors or rotary cutter/cutting mat/pattern weights
-Hand sewing needle
