The purpose of this collective is to give writers who have been marginalized and “othered” based on gender “a room of one’s own” to develop their voice and craft without the influence of cis-male consciousness or opinion. This safe space will help foster the community, structure, and accountability we need to take our writing to the next level. Writers of all genres are invited to join!
We welcome all self-identifying women (both cis and transgender), transgender men, and gender nonconforming, nonbinary, genderqueer, and genderfluid people, regardless of race, ethnicity, nationality, health and ability, religion, or sexual orientation.
TOI hosts the monthly TMI Open Mic series, which showcases poetry, spoken word, and story-telling by artists who have been marginalized in traditional literary settings based on gender. The writing group will convene for its inaugural meeting on November 20th at 6:30 p.m. At this first meeting we will introduce ourselves and discuss our goals for the group.
In December we start our regular programming with the TOI writing group held on the second Tuesday of each month and the TMI Open Mic held on the third Friday of each month. For more information, please contact Petra at [email protected].
